Free Credit Report

A Free Credit Report should be your first step to improving and maintaining your credit score.  Knowing what is on your credit profile for all three bureaus is a necessity in today’s credit driven world to protect against identity theft or fraud and to ensure you are getting the best financing terms from lenders.  On 9/1/2005, the nationwide laws were passed that enabled everybody to receive a credit report unconditionally for free from all 3 major credit bureaus once per year.

You can order one of these three reports every few months throughout the year, but you can never order a single report from one bureau more than once in a year.  The Internet makes it fast, easy, and safe to get your free credit reports and scores.  Online credit report requests are available to view immediately after your information has been verified.  If you order your reports by phone or mail, they will be processed usually within 15 days.  If you want to ensure control over your financial information you must obtain a Free Credit Report ASAP!

Your free credit report will let you review the same information that lenders have access to in your credit profile.  Credit reports include your name, name variations, addresses where you have lived, date of birth, social security number, listed and unlisted phone numbers, employment information, what your payment history is like, tax liens, civil judgments, and public records showing any lawsuits or whether or not you have filed bankruptcy.  Information related to salaries greater than $75,000 or applications for life insurance or credit of greater than $150,000 can be reported on your profile.

Credit reports also contain information about delinquent child support.   These items can all be reported for up to 7 years or 10 years for bankruptcies.  All this information is sold to lenders, banks, creditors, employers, insurers, and any businesses that need to evaluate an application for insurance, credit, renting a home, or employment.  Once you receive your free credit report you want to make sure all your information is accurate and up to date.

When ordering a free credit report, you may be asked for some personal information that only you would know to verify your identity.  Most likely you will be asked to verify your name, your spouse’s name, current employers or addresses, and previous employers and addresses.  It may take you longer to receive your free credit report if you do not provide accurate verification information to the consumer reporting agency.  Each of the three credit bureaus may ask you to verify different information, because they received it from various sources.  Each of the three credit bureaus will give you roughly the same information only presented in a different format.

Order your free credit report today so you can get approved for low interest mortgages, protect yourself from identity theft, and prevent inaccuracies today!
